Modern technology allows information to flow faster than ever. Smartphones, tablets, Facebook, and Twitter have made instant communication not only possible but nearly inescapable. With all the new gadgets and the online world locked in overshare mode 24/7, it’s tempting to think that the rules of communication are as obsolete as the rotary phone.
Not So Fast.
We would argue that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Technology allows us to do things more efficiently, sure. And it allows us to connect with realms more expansive than Alexander Graham Bell or Johannes Gutenberg could have imagined. But those bells and whistles are all for naught unless you can see beyond them to your goal. Meaningful communication is still about content, about actually reaching your audience effectively with a relevant message. Technology is just the means to an end.

New West was founded as Wenz-Neely Public Relations before adding advertising, marketing, graphic design and event management to its mix of services.
The firm was acquired by Shandwick.
Longtime executives Becky Simpson and Tom Howell bought the firm from Weber Shandwick Worldwide.
Simpson left New West in May to become the University of Louisville’s Senior Associate Vice President for Communications and Marketing.
Carl Brazley, owner of Mo’ Better Marketing, acquired New West from Howell and Simpson. The acquisition placed New West among the largest African-American-owned advertising agencies in the country.
Brazley is now Principal of New West.
