Louisville Slugger Museum

A New Home for a Baseball Institution

Disciplines: Brand Identity, Environmental Graphics and Wayfinding

Objectives:

  • Make it easier for visitors to find their way to the gift shop, ticket windows, restrooms and other destinations within the facility
  • Make the common areas of the museum more colorful, lively and user-friendly
  • Find a creative and decorative way to dampen the museum’s noisy four-story atrium

Strategies:

  • Created a boldly themed program throughout the facility using branded “slugger” icons which were also developed into gift shop merchandise
  • Three-dimensional site maps, banners, wall graphics and wayfinding signage were strategically placed throughout the facility
  • Super hero-sized “etched” graphics were incorporated into the exterior windows
  • A series of acoustical baffles were hung from the ceiling in a baseball stitching pattern to dampen the noise in the four-story atrium

Results:

  • The museum achieved shrine-like status overnight with attendance figures far exceeding expectations
  • The interior of the museum has been featured in numerous publications
